Indiana University Basketball is Relavent...ish?

I should probably be spanked with the wooden spoon. I forgot that Indiana University played today on ESPN. They smashed Minnesota. You know, it is really delightful that they are performing well this year and reaping the rewards of national attention. They started the season off unranked and not even thought of as a NCAA tournament team – but after they beat Kentucky, they have consistently been ranked in the top 25. They are not a superb team, by any stretch of the imagination. But they are an up-and-coming team. And more importantly, they are exhilarating to watch.

After I woke up from my nap (which involved a dream that starred Stevie from Eastbound & Down), I checked the box score for the aforementioned basketball game. 12 must have been the number of the day. Three players had 12 points. They are pretty good about sharing the ball. Who doesn’t like a magnanimous team? After I looked at the statistics, I decided investigate the classes of each player. I wanted to see how commendable or lamentable they would be next year, depending on whom they lose.

But alas!

Good news, Indiana fans! No one in the starting line-up is graduating this year. And even better news, Verdell Jones III graduates! I have not seen a guy extinguish an offense so rapidly than whenever Verdell Jones III hits the floor. I am really not even sure why Tom Crean puts him in the game. He should be filling up that bottle of tan liquid for Crean. If Jones’ senior status is the reason he garners playing time, I may lose all respect for Crean. That guy causes serious damage and puts unwarranted pressure on his teammates.

On another note, I read on a pal’s Facebook wall that Bob Knight is rumored to be calling the Indiana University basketball game on Tuesday! This is astounding! In case you are in the dark about Indiana University basketball history, Bob Knight was the coach for many decades and an icon in the state of Indiana. He was fired after he got physical with an Indiana student in Assembly Hall. There were also several allegations made by former players. The allegations involved unorthodox motivation techniques. Techniques that would like make the most egotistical person in the world feel like a piece of shit. If you would like more history or YouTube documentation, Google it or look up Knight on Wikipedia (it is always accurate).

Exciting times ahead for Indiana University basketball fans!

  1. I think ESPN said Knight will not be calling the game unfortunately. Also I hate to be too critical of college players but you're right VJ3 is terrible. He's had 1 or 2the good moments, but much more bad than good. He's a relic of a sad time for IUBB. I'm ready for him to go.
