Give Me a Pint of Lin-Sanity

Apparently Ben and Jerry’s recently created and market a new flavor of ice cream in Boston– called Lin-Sanity. This is cool, right? Jeremy Lin defied the odds and became an overnight success story. He even flooded Modells with bootleg t-shirts that carried his name or alter-ego (Linsanity) on the back. So it is only natural that two weird dudes from Vermont create an ice cream in his honor.

But wait a second…

They put a fortune cookie in the recipe! Whoa! Apparently some people found this ingredient offensive. Why? Lin’s Chinese decent is what makes him unique. This is an enormous part of the story. What if Lin was a white boy from Indiana? Would the story be as captivating? No. So what is the problem?

I abhor it when people apologize because they forgot to walk on eggshells. People in the United States are too sensitive on the public level. Come on US citizens, drop the act and present yourself as your inner insensitive persona. You are living on stolen land from the Indians! You are not a REAL philanthropist and humanist. You just pretend. Stop presenting yourself as this false façade.

Bottom line: Ben and Jerry’s should NOT apologize for this flavor. The fortune cookie represents a vital part of Lin’s background. This is what makes him and the ice cream inimitable. Get off of the eggshells and jump into the fire.
